Our Story
The Abbeyfield movement began in 1956 in London, England, with a simple but powerful idea: to provide quality housing and support for seniors from all walks of life, regardless of income.
Abbeyfield came to Canada in 1960 and has since grown across the country, supported by local communities and dedicated volunteers.
Abbeyfield Golden opened its doors in 2000 on leased land and is proudly operated by a local, volunteer-led, independent non-profit society, affiliated with Abbeyfield Canada.
Our Board
Since Abbeyfield opened its doors in Golden, it has been managed by dedicated locals who oversee the finances and governance, manage daily operations in the house and surrounding gardens, and organize programming for residents.
